Back to school...almost

Things I'm doing to prepare for going back to school...

5. Watching as much Netflix & On Demand as I can.
Empire, Prison Break, Pretty Little Liars...and the list goes on.

4. Getting a few more things checked off my summer bucket list.
Threw that one in for a little update. I always have trouble getting everything on my summer bucket list done. On top of the things I have completed thus far, I can add getting a tattoo and getting the flowers done in our front flower bed/landscaping area, and of course laying around for one full day. I get to check off the flower beds by default because my mother in law did it for me while I was visiting in Indiana. Best MIL everrrrrr!

Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
3. Going to some 9am crossfit classes.
Because I have the choice right now of whether or not I want to get up for 6am class or sleep in and go to 9am! Unfortunately when school starts I do not have that luxury! #firstworldproblems
2. Stock piling recipes for easy lunches and dinners.
This one I need help with!! I am constantly looking for lunch ideas that I can pre-make and just grab and go each day. What's your favorite lunch recipe for a working chick?!

1. Getting excited because I get to see my precious babies soon!
This one is super important. I had a great summer, it went by entirely too fast, and I had a nice break from being at work everyday- but I miss my babies! Let's do this!

Plus it's always entertaining to see kids come in who had a growth spurt over the summer and now have baby mustaches growing.

What do you do to prepare to go back to school/work?!

Linking up because IT'S FRIDAY Y'ALL!

5 on Friday: Special Edition.

7-24-07. I will never forget this date for the rest of my life.

I don't mean for this to be a sad post at all, but today marks 8 years since my dad passed away. I'd like to take a minute to remember all the great times we had with him.

My dad was one of a kind. I know everyone's dad is the best, but I really can't say enough good things about mine. He did so much for our family and I had a bond with him like no other. So, today seems like a good day to share 5 things I learned from my dad.

5. Stay Active. My dad and I always liked to get out and ride bikes or hike together. He would make up stories on the hikes about how there was a peanut butter and jelly monster hiding in the cave at Clifty. (Now you can see where I got my silliness from).

4. IU Basketball is LIFE. I can't tell you how many times I watched my dad yell at his TV in his man cave when the IU games were on.

3. Work hard. Give 110%. My dad wasn't concerned with what I wanted to be, but whatever it was he was always pushing me to do my best at it. (And at that age I am sure I wanted to be a ballerina AND a rodeo player.)

2. The little things are the most important. The nights when he would run into my room with pots and pans or paper plates to "scare" me and my friends during slumber parties is a memory I will never forget. It's not some big elaborate thing, but it means a lot to me. And for that reason I will always cherish those little moments.

1. Unconditional love exists. I know because no matter what bonehead move I made, my dad NEVER withheld his love from me. He might have gotten angry, but he had a way of turning anything I did into a teachable moment. I wouldn't be even a quarter of who I am today if it hadn't been for him, and for that I am forever grateful.

It makes me sad every. single. day. that Mr. L and my sister in law will never get to meet their father in law and that my sweet baby niece will never get to meet her Papaw, but every day I get older I see myself becoming more like him. So I will do my best to let people know of him through me.

I've included a few pics of times I shared with my dad. Enjoy! (And disregard my hair in most pics, hair was clearly not my priority back then).

Happy Friday! Linking up. Check out all the awesome bloggers that do a Friday 5. There are some really great ones!

Hidden Gems

You know those places right? The most perfect little spots that you've ever set eyes on and with the best stuff; whether it's a hole in the wall food place, hidden boutique, or in this case a great little store that sells so many awesome things from home decor, to fabric, to coffee mugs (my FAV!) AND has a vintage looking barbershop in the front. Swoon! (If you saw any of my wedding pictures, you know I am a major sucker for that vintage rustic look and this store has got it going on!!!)

Not only that, but the woman who owns the store teaches wine and canvas type painting classes which are perfect for a girls night out!

And I guess I could go ahead and mention that the store owner happens to be a pretty wonderful person who is not only my friend's sister, but also someone that all of my girlfriends, myself included, have looked up to over the years. (That does not however sway my opinion of her store at all, it is perfect!)

So, here are some pictures to document our fun girls night out experience at Little Golden Fox.

Thank you SO much for having us Cara! We had so much fun and I definitely plan to do it again next time I'm visiting!

So there ya go, if you're ever in the midwest, or more specifically Southern Indiana- you MUST stop by Little Golden Fox. You can pick up cute little items such as this adorable travel coffee mug that I HAD to have, and will get a lot of use from!

Have a happy Wednesday!

And on Sundays, we euchre!

We haven't had a good old fashioned, relaxing Sunday Funday in ever SO long. (I know this is the middle of the week, but i'm still on vacation and I'm a little behind... so don't be a hater :) )

But this past Sunday we rectified that horrible Sunday Funday-less situation we had been living in. Not only did Mr. L and I get to drive through the country and take in the pretty scenery, we got to spend time with his Aunt and Uncle that we adore!

It was a great day including snacks, drinks, porch sitting, grilling burgers, fun drinks, and tons of laughs. Even though I already named off a Heavenly list of items, let's add euchre to the mix and the midwestern piece of my heart was so happy.

For those of you not from the midwest, you may not know what euchre is. So, I'm here to inform you it is the best card game ever!! Maybe not ever, but pretty close. Here's a link with how to play, I'm not even going to attempt explaining that one. I just happened to stumble across thewebsite and it's kind of cool- it has the rules and an automated game so you can practice! Pretty neat!

Anyways, here are a few shots documenting our Sunday.
It was so pretty out!
Taste-testing a little tequila.
Love all the big trees!
A selfie for good measure (I NEEEEED my hairs did.)
Not sure what this is. Just thought it looked cool.
And that's all! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

These are my roots and this is what I love

What I love about small towns.

More specifically what I love about my small town. My little town that nobodys ever heard of and I have to describe in detail so they can even figure out where it is geographically.

So here are 5 things that pretty much sum up my love of small towns:

You always know where things are, no matter how long you're gone. Back roads to my friends' houses? No prob. Just like the back of my hand.

You run into people you haven't seen forever and it's like you just saw them yesterday. Oh hey haven't seen you in 10 years, we're still best friends? Okay!

All the good foods I grew up with. All of them! Chinese, BBQ, Sliders and home fries, and my favorite: DONUTS! Specifically the white icing and chocolate chip ones.

Pretty scenery. Big full trees, GREEN grass, and old gravel roads.

It's where my family and some of my favorite people are! Now that I live 1,000 miles away I have a new found appreciation for coming back to my little small town. It's where I grew up and a piece of my heart will always be there. But right now, I get to enjoy it for 9 more days. :)

Happy Friday Ya'll. Linkin' up!

Things I love about Friday July 3rd, 2015.

5. It's 4:30pm and I'm enjoying one of my favorites- mango rum. Since visiting St. Kitts in March I've been all about this stuff. Of course the mango rum I buy at the store isn't quite as good as the mango rum made on St. Kitts, but it will do.

4. I hit a front squat PR today. Not just any PR. The most weight I have loaded on a bar for a front squat is probably around 75lbs. Maybe 80 tops. I've just never been comfortable with the movement. Today I hit 110lbs. Needless to say- I am super pumped.

3. Tomorrow is Taryn's birthday. Hi Taryn, Happy Birthday! See you in a week!

2. One of my best friends will be here in just a few short hours. Best friend-cation dos of the summer is about to begin.

1. We celebrate our independence as a country and give thanks to all of those people who continue to give their lives to allow us freedom- for the whole weekend.

Linking up with some other great people today! Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend!
